  1. Designed an intuitive UI/UX for a unique web3 Shopify storefront, with wallet connections and tokengated content
  2. Tracked transactional history of ERC-20 tokens and developed a custom checkout where they could be spent
  3. Integrated the Shopify storefront seamlessly into Fox’s core Krapopolis web experience

Fox’s Krapopolis is not your typical TV show — fans can interact on a whole new level.

From the creator of Rick & Morty, Dan Harmon’s Krapopolis is an animated comedy set in mythical ancient Greece centered on a flawed family of humans, gods and monsters that tries to run one of the world’s first cities without killing each other.

Fox has a track record of embracing the latest technology for fan participation in TV, like with text message voting on American Idol. They developed Krapopolis with plans for blockchain integration in order to deepen potential connections with fans, making it the first network TV show to do so.

THE VISION

Fox’s web3 media startup, Blockchain Creative Labs, wanted to create unique tokengated experiences to engage and reward future superfans of Krapopolis on Shopify. They planned to use tech to make the TV show truly interactive, allowing fans to participate via Krap Chicken NFTs, scavenging for eggs, voting on show scenes, and accessing exclusive content and merch. They chose Shopify because its robust infrastructure makes it the ideal platform to handle all their current and future commerce needs, including tokengating, loyalty redemptions, and third-party fulfillment.

WHY LAZER?

With an amazing show and game plan put into place, Lazer worked closely with Fox’s Blockchain Creative Labs team to build out their web3 commerce strategy. We work at the forefront of both commerce and web3, and we knew exactly how to build their vision and quickly ensure it was the best possible experience for their fans.

Approach

Designing a seamless storefront that merged web3 and Shopify

Designing an intuitive web3 experience for Shopify storefronts is still relatively new.

We worked closely with the Fox team to ensure that users were able to connect a wallet, interact with gated content depending on if wallets contained specific NFTs or tokens, and engage with a checkout system that allowed payments with ERC-20 tokens. This was all done while ensuring it integrated properly with Shopify’s backend and key APIs from the Fox team.

Approach

Integrating existing KRAPEGG tokens and Krap Chicken NFTs

To support operational processes already in place by the Fox and Krapopolis team, we leveraged a system to track the transactional history of KRAPEGGs (ERC-20 token), we developed a custom checkout with checkout.liquid to ensure KRAPEGGs could be spent, and we ran limited-time promotions to enrich existing Krap Chicken NFTs (ERC-721) with new traits and metadata.

Approach

Capturing transaction data for real-time minting and ranking

We integrated with Google Sheets to create an offline ledger for the Krapopolis team to leverage for fulfillment and product operations.

In order to get their email receipt, users had to provide an email address that would then be associated with their wallet address.

When an order was made, the transaction metadata went into the Google sheet, and the NFT partner integrated with it to automatically mint the transaction in real time. When a user signs into their Krapopolis account by connecting a wallet, they would see all the transactions they made and where they ranked on the leaderboard.

Approach

Seamlessly integrating Shopify into the show's web experience

To achieve the web3 commerce experience we planned out, we needed to ensure the website supported tokengating, loyalty redemptions, web3 wallet connections, third-party fulfilment, and more — all under the same roof.

So we developed the storefront to hook into the existing web property, and ensured core user experience flows were built out and working seamlessly. We collaborated closely with Fox’s design team to make sure the original Krapopolis site and the Shopify storefront integrated seamlessly and felt like one experience.

We helped Fox fuse TV and web3 on Shopify to produce groundbreaking fan engagement for Krapopolis.

Krapopolis is such an innovative, unique, creative show — we were thrilled to have the opportunity to develop their core web3 commerce experience with their team.

By partnering with us, they successfully launched an intuitive storefront that not only rewards their dedicated audience but also sets a new precedent for interactive television experiences. With seamless wallet integration and token-gated content, it demonstrates the exciting possibilities of web3 in fostering deeper connections between creators and fans.

This innovative approach positions Fox at the forefront of web3 media engagement, and we are proud to have played a pivotal role in bringing this vision to life.
